Downstream doesn't have a heater, only the upstream (A/F sensor does). All the downstream does is tell you when your precats start to fail...if you can live with the CEL being on, then you can live without the wiring.

If you want more help, please feel free to share your model year, and the year of the donor engine.

Thanks for the reply I'm having a p037 code come up and I live in ny to rereg. The car you need to get it inspected first the first o2 sensor is on the exhaust manifold the second witch I thought would be the down stream is right befor the car it has 4 wires to it I do no know the year of the new motor but I have a 2005 Altima 2.5 with 145 k on the body I hooked up a multimeter to the wiring found the power and ground the two other white wires I tried putting together then the check engine light came back on so I switched the two white wires and still got the cel the down stream has 4 wires.. could that code mean the it's the upstream ?

upstream is above the cat, downstream is below the cat
upstream has a heater so it can start working properly sooner
lower just works after it warms up and the ECU 'blanks' the error until the engine is up to temp.

The sensor generates a weak voltage based on the O2 content of the exhaust gas. A multimeter will show the sensor as a very high resistance.

Start here: Page EC-137

Sensor wiring is on EC-175, with pins 1 through 4 being:

1 - White
2 - Red/Yellow
3 - Purple/Black
4 - Black

Connector pinout/arrangement is shown at bottom of Page EC-175 from the HARNESS SIDE meaning the side the wires enter the harness connector which is F23.

The white and black wires are the sensor itself, the red/yellow is the power when igntion is on, and purple black is the ECU controlled ground for the heater element. If the heater is good, you should see a resistance across the heater wires. You won't see anything useful between white and black...nor would I check...those sensor can be damaged if you don't know what you're doing.
